Month Four begins…

First swim in February and a slight rise of sea temperature back above 5 degrees (5.4). The sun was bright, the wind a favourable west-north-westerly, although the waves were a little fun. After crashing into a number of waves with an inappropriately open mouth I have made a note to learn how to breath on both sides while doing front crawl. Over the last few years I have realised that changes to my stroke, technique and equipment is best done during the warmer months. I could of course go to an indoor pool (like normal people!) but not unsurprisingly I do find them too warm :)

So I look forward to the return of the Brightlingsea Lido and some early morning lane swimming so I can work on taking my breathing. It will also allow me to keep an eye on buoys or boats depending on the time of year.

Below is a picture that my friend Tim Bees took as he walked around the prom at lunchtime, just after I’d got out of the water. In the foreground is my donation tin, which has seen £15 placed it in over the last few days for the St Helena Hospice. Many thanks to all those who generously support their work as well as those who drop by for a chat. And no, “it isn’t alright once you’re in” :)
